Meet one of our awesome Spotlights, our country’s own Pride & Joy Zim Gem’s Captain Felisitus Kwangwa !
At just 24 years old, she has already earned herself the name Zim 1 and been recently nicknamed Minister of Defence after a spectacular performance at the 2019 World Cup. Currently she is an Honors in Economic History student at University of Zimbabwe and playing for Correctional Queens.
“I grew up in Bulawayo Njube and attended my primary school at Mtshede primary school. That is where my journey as an athlete began. My primary teachers fell in love with my performance to an extent that they ended up forcing me to play soccer, volleyball and Netball because of my height, speed and body flexibility. In 2008 -2013 I went to Sikhulile high for my form to form 6. Because of the support I got from my high school teacher and former mighty warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi I managed to sail through and made a good brand for my self.”
2011 -represented Bulawayo at Zimbabwe National Youth games
2012-represented team Zimbabwe at COSSASA games held in Namibia
2014 -joined the senior team at the age of 19 and was appointed as the vice captain. Led the netball team which were later known as the golden girls at 2014 region five games.
2015- were crowned the African champion. and also gold medalists at correctional services SADC games held in Botswana.
2016-qualified for the Junior World Cup held a year later in Botswana.
2017-was awarded MVP in Hong Kong trip nations cup and the team walked away with a gold medal . In the very same year we were bronze medalists at the African championships.
2018- qualified for the World Cup in and also bronze medalists at African championships.
2019-Claimed the player of the match twice at the World Cup even though she was a debut.
Inspired by Serena Williams I am hoping to achieve more in my career and be the best elite student athlete in the world.
