“Do not let the memories of your past limit the potential of your future. There are no limits to what you can achieve on your journey through life, except in your mind.” Roy T.Bennett.
Meet the young and hot prospect Liam Roche who is a professional cricketer currently residing in New Zealand playing for Karori Cricket Club.
Liam was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe. He was privileged enough to attend the prestigious St. George’s College in Harare, where he assembled a greater understanding of what he wanted in life. “As many would know and understand Zimbabwe has it’s challenges. Some would identify these challenges as problems but I saw them as an opportunity, an opportunity to grow and prosper.”
“From a very young age I had a goal, a dream of playing professional cricket. It was only in my latter days of college I saw a path to reach my goal. A door was opened to representing my country, at a youth international stage around the world. I was fortunate enough to tour most of the cricketing world between 2016-2018 for Zimbabwe U19’s. I also had the great honour of leading the Zimbabwe U19 Cricket team at the 2018 World Cup in New Zealand. “
After the World Cup and stellar performances he was granted a domestic contract with Mashonaland Eagles for the remainder of the 2017/2018 season. In turn this eventually led him to earn a spot in the Zimbabwe National training squad in June 2018. The following month he was named in the ODI squad for Zimbabwe vs Pakistan in a 5 match series. At the tender age of 18 he made his debut in the first game of that series on the 13 July 2018.
In light of those latter days of college he saw a path, he walked that path without looking back and hurdled any challenges on the way. While he has accomplished some of his goals he is not yet fully satisfied.
“I am currently on a different pathway, which consists of many goals that I would like to achieve. Ultimately, I am aiming to reach the international cricket arena again here in New Zealand. New Zealand has brought me such joy and high spirit everyday since I arrived here, and no doubt will continue to do so.”
