Simbai Kanjere

Meet our Spotlight Simbai Kanjere. A young Zimbabwean photographer and cinematographer based in Johannesburg.
______
“Together with my friend Riaad Abdullah and my girlfriend Diane Athiemulam, the past year has been focused on starting up a visual collective called Visual Jutsu. We provide any visual requirements required by young creators and artists from music videos and visualizers to event coverage and social media content.
_______
I’ve been a cinematographer and photographer for about 4 years now and in that time I have been fortunate enough to be given a myriad of opportunities in the industry. I have a feature length film, multiple adverts, music videos, fashion films, countless product and corporate shoots all under my belt.
______
To date I’ve screened 2 projects at ARIFF, the Africa Rising International Film Festival. Being in an international festival was a huge personal goal as I admire and draw inspiration from independent creatives. I’ve also been published in the upcoming online magazine, Haze. My most recent achievement of pride is a project still in development, my first solo exhibition. This will be a series of images focused on immigrants.
_________
My main challenges have come from my choice to remain independent and build my own business. With a limited financial education, understanding how to use my money effectively to grow my business has been challenging. (registering a business, how tax works, effective marketing etc. )Taking this time out was crucial to gaining focus and seeing real results from my investment into myself and my business. Once I had that, the only real challenge which I still face is patience. Everyday I have to remind myself that to create something truly meaningful and long-lasting requires patience and commitment. It will not happen overnight for everybody.
_______
My focus is on growing my team and our skills. We constantly strive to deliver the best we can to our clients with us now and I believe by ensuring your present is the best it can be, the future will bring opportunity for growth. Our goal is to be a respected and integral part of growth among young artists in Southern Africa and eventually the world
