Meet our Host Sybil Sibanda
As a lady and only director of Sybil’s Beauty Emporium, Sybil has the huge task of developing the business beyond just being a backyard business. Being based in Zimbabwe’s erratic and often more than difficult economic environment, the business closed shop for about a year and getting capital to start over again was no easy task. But here we are again…
Sybil attended Eaglesvale School, a private school in Harare before doing high school at Speciss College. Playing hockey and tennis and also participating in swimming, she was also a member of the Interact Club.
Currently, Sybil is a final year student in a BComm degree in Insurance & Risk Management. The challenges of assignments and studies are not new, but she has managed to overcome other business related challenges like operational inefficiencies as she learnt her distribution channels. The business imports and distributes hair and beauty products. Handling and packaging of the products is always a challenge as some orders take longer to be delivered. This is further compounded by the time constraints of juggling university and business. Sybil’s short term vision is to open up a physical store or distribution centre in order to increase efficiencies. She will also diversify product lines in order to take more care of the women clientele that she has developed, specifically gadgets that will appeal to the ladies. The shop will be a beauty spa with a coffee shop and the brand and concept should expand to the other African countries in about 5 years
