Meet our spotlight Tampiwa Mahari who is a 19 year old self taught photographer who recently completed his A Levels In 2019 at St George’s College.
Tampiwa’s photography journey began in 2015 due to the interest he paid in his uncles cameras. He started it off as a hobby capturing moments with friends at school as well as covering sports fixtures.
His love for the craft grew on him when he started experimenting with different photo development softwares. He went on to create the Great Gatsby Photography brand and has been growing from that day onwards.
In 2019 Tampiwa took park in the Ndine Thaza game show, which consists of a series of questioning and analysis pertaining business by prominent business men and women of Zimbabwe. As the youngest contestant, Tampiwa came out as the underdog and won the thousand dollar investment that was put into his business after successfully listing his Strengths and weakness as a business owner. This milestone in his life saw Tampiwa featuring on the ZBC and this really boosted his growth as an entrepreneur, he has grown a customer base that stretches to all corners of Harare and he has even received offers from out of Harare.
In the near future Tampiwa wishes to begin his undergraduate in America and he wants to leave Great Gatsby Photography running in the hands of students he would’ve mentored. “I personally am an advocate for people pursuing crafts out of the norm, growing up I never would’ve said I want to be a photographer and it’s very important for young people especially in Zimbabwe to grow up knowing the world is full of endless possibilities and that they should not be pursuing the career with the most rewards on paper because you never know where your talent and passion can take you.” _________
