Meet our spotlight Tino Marufu is a Stylist and one of the few young Zimbabweans who has successfully turned and informal accessories and clothing business into a legit and viable business.
From a young age tino was always entrepreneurial always selling sweets and whatever was trending at the time. At 16 years Tino went to South Africa to seek for better employment opportunities but a friend that had called him to help “mysteriously” was now unreachable. Tino decided to head back home and a friend of decided to give him some money to start his own business.
Tino started buying clothes from south Africa and reselling them by Avondale flee market and this was lucrative but only for a while. Tino then started selling carpets out his car by five avenue and realised there was a big demand in carpets, but ofcourse run ins with city council made business hard.
One of Tino’s friends then managed to give him money to continue his clothing and carpet business but getting supply from China, but like every entrepreneurs story, a challenge always arises and Tino’s challenge was that he didn’t have money for a flight ticket. “As a hustler and doer I did what was needed at the time and I sold my phone. ” After selling his phone Tino got on to the next flight to China and his amazing journey began. Tino has managed to grow his business to an extent of renting a shop in one of the most expensive parts of town, the groombridge vainona area and is still going strong. This just goes to show that a man’s station in life is determined by his own imagination.
