“Focus on growth rather than goals.”
Meet our Spotlight, 20 year old Angel Nakai Nyagumbo who is an aspiring author and psychologist. Angel started a WordPress blog named “The Cabinet of Thoughts” in 2019 in hopes to address issues that a majority of people go through but are too afraid to confront.
“Mental health issues are ones we don’t usually talk about amongst ourselves because they bring a sense of discomfort and vulnerability and not everyone is willing to be vulnerable or seem “weak”. I started my blog in hopes to be a voice for the voiceless. In our generation we have so many self imposed and societal expectations that may lead to some mental illnesses such as depression. My passion is to help people get to a better place mentally and emotionally which is why my blog posts are centered around current affairs and issues that we go through that people are afraid to talk about and that are some what stigmatized. The issues I’ve addressed on my blog are : Gender based violence, depression, living in a broken home, dealing with suicidal thoughts, just to name a few.
I wish people could understand the importance of the brain and realize that just because you cannot see mental illness like you can see a broken bone does not mean that it is not as detrimental or devastating to a family or an individual. With that said, always ask for help when you’re in a dark place from those around you and never assume that no one will “understand” you or help you through it. Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should or need to do it alone.
Remember : Love has no gender – compassion has no religion – character has no race.”
