“Whatever you’re doing, start with what you have, believe in yourself and never underestimate the power of collaboration. “

Meet our Spotlight Marie-Astrid Bouvier, also known as Mimi, I’m a 23 years old French/Zimbabwean Creative and Entrepreneur. I was born and raised in Harare. I’m currently at the end of my gap year, from studying Biology in France, during which I was a French teacher & apprentice beekeeper in Harare.

Being away from university was a chance for me to explore my creativity in depth. My creative journey started in June 2018 when I bought my first camera. Creating gave me the Power to do and change so much around me and within. But since I’ve been back, many opportunities have come up to be more involved in the arts.

A friend of mine came to me with an idea of creating an art space in Zimbabwe. Few weeks later The Sesh (@seshtheofficial) was born. We created a movement and started hosting networking, social & collaborative events(in collaboration with @palmfridays_zw) for upcoming and well implemented Artists in Zimbabwe.

I also Creative Direct a Streetwear/Activewear Fashion Brand called Intricate Lifestyle (@intricatelifestyle) and we just dropped a new A/W collection. Intricate Lifestyle is a proudly Zimbabwean Brand . We strive to empower local small scale businesses (tailors, designers, photographers…) while ensuring ethically sourced high quality products.
After joining Intricate Lifestyle, we then created an event called Drip Sundays (@dripsundayszw). It aims at Empowering Zimbabwean made fashion brands all across the globe. It’s an event where fashion designers, fashion enthusiasts and brands come to mingle together, sell, exchange, collaborate or simply just network amongst them.

During my gap year, I co-hosted my first collaborative exhibition as a photographer called Mind Trip. Four Zimbabwean inspiring artists and I curated a space to share and experience art, showcasing poetry, photography, drawing and painting. It’s something we are definitely going to bring back soon.

Through my work, I intend to Empower others, tell stories that unheard of, heal, encourage positivity.
